How to become Accredited?

APPLICATION :

Conformity Assessment Bodies also known as CABs identify the accreditation scheme(s) they wish to get accredited for. Currently, the five schemes recognized by UKASL are Management Systems Certification, Personnel Certification, Product Certification and GHG Validation & Verification & Inspection.

Alternatively, you may seek to get accreditation for a scheme that is not yet recognized by UKASL. If that is the case, please contact UKASL before applying, as the scheme will required to be assessed & some preparations or scheme developments may be needed before your application can be processed.

The 1st stage of the accreditation process is to submit the Corporate Profile of your organization. If UKASL finds it suitable then UKASL shall ask the applicant organization to send a fee of £2,000 towards application fee & after receiving the application fee, UKASL shall send the application form. Further, the CAB shall submit their application duly completed in all respects, including relevant documentation required and mentioned  in the application form, along with the requisite fee for documentation review of £5,000 per scope to the office depending upon the country of your location.

SYSTEM ASSESSMENT :

UKASL shall then review the application documents against the corresponding accreditation criteria & provide a report to the applicant organization. The next stage of assessment won’t proceed until and unless the documented systems meet the requirements.

ASSESSMENT :

Afterwards, UKASL shall select an assessment team who shall undertake an on-site assessment at the applicant organization’s offices. The assessment team shall also witness the applicant organization’s team undertaking the assessment activity at their client’s premises. After the completion of assessments, the assessment team shall write a report of their conclusions along with recommendations.

REVIEW OF ASSESSMENT REPORT :

UKASL has an Accreditation Review Panel (ARP). Members of this panel are professionals who have expertise in the scope of accreditation requested. The Accreditation Review Panel  or the ARP shall review the report & makes a decision regarding accreditation.

ACCREDITATION DECISION :

If the application organization’s accreditation application gets approved, a Certificate of Accreditation is issued. If in the unfortunate case, the accreditation is not approved, the applicant is informed of the reasons for the rejection. A fresh application may be made after a period of six months from the date of rejection. Once an organization is accredited, regular visits are made to the CAB’s premises to check the CAB’s ongoing compliance with the accreditation criteria. UKASL also selects a group of CAB auditors & inspectors for witnessing activities. A complete reassessment takes place every 4 years.
